Free Music Upload
In the early 90s, albums and singles were distributed using CDs and cassette tapes. I remember looking for Def Leppard’s Hysteria and Mr. Big’s Big, Bigger and Biggest at HMV. Of course the interest towards these albums was generated by watching their singles on MTV at that time as these bands were popular at that time. Indie bands, however, hardly used the mainstream to promote their music and so most of us wouldn’t have even known that they even existed.
Of course, all that has changed with the Internet today.
As a listener, you can listen to music of your choice by internet radio that plays music which is palatable to you. Or you can even download music that you like from the iTunes store or other music download communities that have been created for artistes to promote their music which are made available to a global audience for a small fee.
Now, if you play with an indie band and would like to share your music, there are a plethora of websites that can get you started in promoting your band.
All you have to do is sign up with names such as Last.fm, MySpace.com and a host of others websites which assist in doing so for absolutely free. All you have to do is create a profile of the band which includes providing details and pictures of the band. Most importantly, you have the option of a free music upload by which you can share your songs.
Interestingly, Alterhit offers both these services mentioned above with a slight twist. You have to create a profile and upload songs of your band. Alterhits pays bands a % of sale value but also pays “Friends” that help to sell music 10% of every sale that happens on their homepage. They can also update their profiles by adding their favorite musician profiles so that they can continue to check on the latest updates as well. This also gives the band additional visibility, as the listener’s profile displays band information for the other listeners in the online community. In addition, the listeners are also given incentives in order to participate in promoting the bands which is what makes the whole initiative unique to its counterparts.
So, if you’re an unsigned band who wants to sell music online or one who just enjoys listening to genres that are catered by a host of indie bands, you can sign on to the website and get started.

Alterhit lets artists upload music for the public to listen to and buy. The public can take part in the sale of music by setting up a shop selling music downloads.
