Listen and Earn
Walt Disney once quoted: "Biggest problem? Well, I'd say it's been my biggest problem all my life. Money. It takes a lot of money to make these dreams come true.
Money is important. It doesn’t matter whether you’re an artist or just one of the fans. You just can’t do without it. This is a modern-day reality that we all will have to live with no matter how philosophical we get or how gung-ho we might get by saying that it doesn’t matter. That’s what we share in common.
Gone are the days when bands like Guns N Roses shacked up for days in one room to rehearse while performing at the Troubadour or Motley Crue survived on food bought by one of the band mate’s sister, which helped them get by till they became famous.
That’s a hard price to pay and a hard life to lead before you can really get famous. And just like life, there are no guarantees.
I really like Metallica’s stand by suing Napster when they discovered that most of their tracks were released in digital form on the Internet even before their new CD was out. On the other hand, very few artists like George Michael are so privileged, that they can distribute their music as well as donate their earnings to charity.
So, can you blame some artists for being ‘sellouts’?
From a realistic point-of-view, I would say hardly. They’re just doing what they have to do in order to get their cheques in the mail, at least when they are a part of mainstream music.
I’m pretty sure that Dr. Dre and Britney Spears make way more than Nuclear Rabbit or Screaming Headless Torsos do, although in my opinion, the latter bands can definitely be termed avant-garde, eclectic and therefore, Indie by genre.
Indie bands, however, are daring and different. It’s no surprise that Indie bands don’t make as much as mainstreams bands do, due to the lack of exposure through media such as radio, television or the internet. I’m not saying that they don’t get any exposure, but it’s significantly less when compared to popular artists who get to sign advertising deals or multi-million dollar record contracts.
However, Alterhit uses the internet in order to help Indie bands also make their money’s worth. By involving the members of its community, who can earn cash while listening to music. Consider it a win-win situation. For example, if you manage to promote an indie artist by saving their information and music on your profile. If someone buys their music of a particular band while on your profile, you get a 10% commission of the total sales.
Why not? It’s about time we all laughed our way to the bank while doing something we love.

Alterhit lets artists upload music for the public to listen to and buy. The public can take part in the sale of music by setting up a shop selling music downloads.
